Gala evening - A private encounter with Magritte
On Tuesday 8 June you will have the opportunity to top off your cultural experience of Brussels with a private visit to the Magritte Museum. This impressive museum will be hired for the TRA2010 participants and their guests exclusively.
The guided visit of the museum in small groups will be followed by a full evening programme filled with culinary delights and music.
The Magritte museum holds the most complete multidisciplinary collection of Magritte works in the world with over 200 items ranging from only oil on canvas, gouaches, drawings, sculptures and painted objects to advertising posters, scores, vintage pictures and films directed by Magritte himself.
This extraordinary museum plunges the visitor into Magritte's universe. During the visit you will get both a chronological and thematic overview of Magritte's oeuvre. As a member of the group "7 Arts", the artist started off his career with constructivism, which he would continue practising between the World Wars. The striking vastness of the surrealist archives which are also kept at the museum and which feature the first surrealist magazines, tracts and correspondence of Magritte acts as one of the leitmotivs throughout the thematical exhibition, from his constructivist period until the moment he discovers the work of de Chirico.
Because of the nazi regime Magritte lay low during the Second World War and gradually turned his hand to surrealism and impressionist touches. After liberation he mimed his relationship with Paris through his "Vache" style, which continues to exert a strong influence on contemporary young artists.
Tickets for this gala evening can be obtained at €150 (€175 in the case of reservations later than 15 March). Each TRA participant is free to order extra tickets for this unique private encounter with René Magritte.
